Wabi Sabi Acrylic and graphite on canvas, 8” x 10”
Japanese words that have no direct translation into English…
Wabi refers to the distinctive, flawed detail that creates an elegant aesthetic whole...the rustic imperfection that makes something one-of-a-kind and beautiful.
Sabi refers to the beautiful patina and character that only comes with age, wear, and repair.
The words together, wabi-sabi, refer to beauty that is imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete, that evokes a sense of serene melancholy, natural solitude, and a spiritual longing.
